A performance by the pre-professional classes and the Area Jeune Ballet Company
This performance showcases all the students from Dance Area’s training programme, from the very youngest just beginning their journey to dancers on the threshold of a professional career.
Part One – The History of Dance
The dance-study classes invite you on a journey through time, exploring the history of dance.
Since the dawn of humanity, the body has been our first language — a universal means of storytelling and expression. From the rituals of Ancient Egypt to the codified forms of Ancient Greece, from the courts of Italy and France to the ballet of the Roi Soleil, dance has continually evolved and transformed. From the virtuosity of 19th-century classical ballet and its pursuit of lightness, to the breaking of conventions in favour of emotional expression, it has led to today’s contemporary dance — free and constantly reinventing itself.
Through this performance, the students retrace this fascinating evolution, bringing to life centuries of movement, creativity and passion on stage.
Part Two – Area Jeune Ballet
Comprising 42 young dancers in professional training, the Area Jeune Ballet presents three original contemporary works.
Created by choreographers with very different artistic styles, these pieces explore themes such as vulnerability, resilience and solidarity. From the intimacy of a trio to the energy of a group of young adults driven by a powerful desire to live life to the full, these performances offer a sequence of subtle emotions that capture the essence of a generation in search of meaning.
